Think Inside the Box
Think Inside the Box

I know the One I have believed in. (2 Tim. 1:12)
When the Storm Rolls In
A lot of things confuse us, cause us pain, and leave us reeling for answers. Sometimes life hurts so much that it shakes our confidence in the character of God. We cry out “why?” Why the cancer, the lost job, the broken relationship, the awful situation that seems to have no answer? We are deeply hurt by the realization that our all-powerful God, for reasons we cannot understand, has chosen not to step in and fix things the way we have begged Him to do. Our imagination can take us down dark paths, and we can find ourselves seething at God and walking away from Him. But there is no peace in bailing out on God—only despair.
The Anchor Holds
The apostle Paul, too, found himself in painful circumstances. But when he was bewildered by what he didn’t know, he found strength and peace by choosing to focus on what he did know. He knew Jesus took a savage beating and was nailed to a cross for us. He knew Jesus would never abandon him and he would be supplied with the grace he needed when he needed it.
So hang on to what you do know. Stay “inside the box” of revealed truth instead of leaping into the realm of wild speculation. Your pain is real, but your pain does not change the fact of the cross. Run toward God in your pain, not away from Him. He loves you.
Bottom Line
God has not promised to answer all your questions or relieve all your pain in this life. But the cross proves He is deeply committed to you.
