When Nothing’s Left
When Nothing’s Left

He will not put out a smoldering wick. (Isa. 42:3)
Burned Out?
God knows what we are made of. He understands our frailty, our dark desires, our bleak seasons of grief. He knows what we’re dealing with at work; He sees our struggles at home; He fully comprehends the depth of our fears. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He completely gets why we sometimes have crazy, self-destructive impulses to commit awful sins. And no matter how bad you blow it or how weak your faith, He will never wash His hands of you. He won’t turn away in disgust. He won’t abandon you. He loves you with an unconquerable love that never goes away.
Fanning the Flame
Today’s text is about the heart of Jesus. Isaiah says our Savior will not snuff out a smoldering wick. Jesus does not despise weak things; He heals them. He makes them strong. He gives them His own power and grace. If you feel like you have nothing left, you may be exactly where Jesus wants you to be. He wants us to understand that our spiritual life does not come from our own resources. Your faith is not something you drum up on your own. All spiritual vibrancy comes from God. You can’t create it, but you can have it. You can ask for it. You can set yourself up to receive it. You can open your Bible and read. You can pray. You can wait expectantly. And He can, and will, fan the flame back to life.
Bottom Line
Keep coming back to God for strength, just as you keep coming back to the fountain to get water. He will revive you.
