Passionate Pursuit
Passionate Pursuit

Do not lack diligence; be fervent in spirit; serve the Lord. (Rom. 12:11)
Man’s Best Friend
Puppies are a great illustration of passion. When a puppy’s master comes home, the puppy doesn’t just sit there quietly hoping for a little attention. No, he jumps, yelps, and barks until the man he loves shows him some attention. Every book on dogs is emphatic that canines want to please their masters. A dog is not lukewarm about pleasing the man who cares for him. He is consumed with a passionate love for his master.
What would it look like if men were that passionately in love with Jesus? What if every man’s life was defined by passion? A lot of Christian men wonder, but the question is how to get there.
The Path of Passion
You can’t wake up at six one day and suddenly decide to run in a marathon later that day, having done absolutely no prior training. And you’re not going to turn into a spiritual giant overnight either. But you can and must passionately pursue God right now, right where you are, in your current circumstances, no excuses. What you’ll discover is that the more you passionately pursue Him, the more you will want to pursue Him because nothing else is better. And the pursuit is not about earning His favor—you’ve already been given that through Jesus. God is far more passionate about pursuing you than you will ever be about pursuing Him. Let that knowledge spur you on to greater intimacy with the Master.
Bottom Line
Begin your “passionate pursuit” with small steps. Ask God to stoke the fires of your heart with a passion for His Word and for prayer.
