Dealing with Insecurity

Mountains

The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. (Ps. 121:5)

The Need for Security

To feel safe in our homes, we lock the doors and install alarm systems. For job security we toe the company line and do the work of three people. For retirement we invest in 401(k) plans and IRAs, and we trust in Social Security. But as one guy said, “For what they actually send you, you can’t afford to be ‘social’ and really can’t feel ‘secure.’”

In our desperate hunt for security, we must understand that we will not find ultimate security in government or retirement accounts or the latest technological wizardry.

The Ultimate Protector

God alone gives ultimate security in an insecure world. God protects us because it is His nature to do so. He is like a father (though infinitely more capable) who protects his children from danger. He is like a fortress that protects from invading enemies. He is like a refuge that offers a place of rest and security when threatened. He is like a shelter that protects us from the elements and outside forces that seek to harm us. God is the Ultimate Protector!

We need to abide and reside with God, safe in the security of His love, depending on Him to support and sustain us daily. This is especially true when times are hard or when we feel threatened from things outside of our control. Our reflex reaction should be to turn to God rather than languish in our own strength.

Bottom Line

God’s protection plan depends not on us but on Him.
