Your Calling

Mountains

Mankind, He has told you what is good and what it is the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God. (Mic. 6:8)

Back to the Basics

In our excitement about a specific ministry calling, we can sometimes lose sight of God’s general call to all believers—to glorify Him by serving others. When we forget this, we can easily act like a prima donna wide receiver going for the showy one-handed touchdown catch while forgetting fundamentals of the game like vigorously running your routes every play, blocking for your teammates, and submitting to the coach’s leadership. An egotistical player really needs a back-to-the-basics conversation with Coach Lombardi!

Maybe you sense a specific call to pastoring, writing, or speaking. Maybe you envision your own one-handed grab: converting hundreds to the Lord, selling millions of books, or instructing thousands from the stage. But how are you doing on the basics? Are you honest and fair in your personal and business dealings? Are you fighting against lust, anger, and greed in your own life? Do you love people who don’t love you back? Do you remember that all of your gifts and all of your strength are from the Lord?

It’s Not about You

No matter what ministry the Lord has given you, it should be about His glory. Keep in mind that the Lord doesn’t measure by worldly standards: He measures by faithfulness. So let your intent be to glorify Him in all you think, say, and do. This is fundamental to your walk with Christ.

Bottom Line

If you’re dreaming of a highlight-worthy ministry, remember that God’s Hall of Fame is really more like Hebrews 11—a Hall of Faith.
