Identity in Christ

Mountains

This is according to His eternal purpose accomplished in the Messiah, Jesus our Lord. In Him we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. (Eph. 3:11–12)

Knowing Who You Are

You are so inseparably bound to Christ that you share not only His possessions but His identity too. God sees you just as He sees Jesus. This does not mean you share the divine nature of Jesus; you don’t. But everything that is true of Jesus in His humanity is also true of you.

Is He a Son? You share His sonship. Is He a Priest? You are a priest too. Is He the Beloved One? You are beloved in Christ. Is He righteous? So are you. Does He have an all-access pass to the throne room of heaven? You are equally welcome there to find grace and mercy in time of need.

Being Who You Are

Do you know your new identity in Christ? When you’re tempted to view yourself as the same old person held captive to sin, do you remind yourself of your true identity in Christ, set free from sin’s penalty and power? When the world labels you stupid, do you counter with the wisdom of Christ? When the world labels you worthless, do you remind yourself that you are deeply loved by God? The world doesn’t define those things for you anymore.

The secret is always to look to Christ for your identity. Abide in Him. Turn to Him. Spend time with Him. Let Him define you.

Bottom Line

No matter what the world may say about you, you are who God says you are, and He says you are complete and perfect in Christ Jesus.
