You’re Not Alone

Mountains

You are my rock and my fortress; You lead and guide me because of Your name. (Ps. 31:3)

Beaten Down and Betrayed

An amazing sense of peace and comfort resides in the words of Psalm 31 because all of us can identify with David’s sense of utter despair. At one time or another, we’ve all felt beaten down and betrayed. For any of a million different reasons, each of our lives has been rocked by difficulty and despair.

No matter how hard we try to control things, our circumstances are often beyond our control. Maybe the worst feeling of all occurs when debilitating doubt creeps in, causing us to feel completely and utterly alone. The situation can seem so desperate, like no one out there could possibly help or even understand our situation.

God Shows Up

And that’s when God shows up. Whether things seem completely out of control in your day-to-day walk or in society in general, God is there. Our lives may change constantly for better or worse, but our Creator was, is, and always will be steadfast and in control. When we cry out to Him, He listens and helps us every time.

Psalm 31 seems to have been written specifically for those of us in crisis. Within its twenty-four verses, David pours out his heart and soul to God. When he refers to God as a rock of refuge and an impenetrable fortress, the implication is clear: no matter how uncertain our lives may be, God is our immovable, unshakable protector. We can count on Him.

Bottom Line

In your times of doubt and struggle, God is always with you, always in control.
