The 7 Best Family Movies Streaming in December

December is the time of the year when we hang the lights, wrap presents and celebrate Jesus' birth.

It's also the month when we gather together as a family and "catch up" with old friends.

Occasionally, we even may enjoy a group activity – such as watching a movie.

Thankfully, there are plenty of new streaming titles this month that are appropriate for every member of the family, kids and adults alike. Who knows? You may discover a title worth gifting to a close friend.

Here are the seven best family-friendly movies streaming this month:

Singer in Moonrise

1. Moonrise (PureFlix)

A single father who is grieving his wife's death rediscovers joy and reignites his country music career. The film stars real-life country singer Granger Smith, who portrays a dad who is raising a daughter who has a passion for horses. It is only when a talented horse trainer (played by Sonya Balmores) arrives that Smith once again embraces romance. This heartwarming original film premiers on the faith-based streaming service PureFlix on Dec. 15.

2. Aisle Be Home for Christmas/A Brush with Christmas (Great American Family)

Great American Family's impressive 18-movie Christmas season concludes with this pair of films debuting on the same weekend. In Aisle Be Home for Christmas (Dec. 17), two executives fall in love after becoming stranded in a superstore during a snowstorm. In A Brush with Christmas (Dec. 18), two artists stumble upon one another and find romance. Launched in 2021, Great American Family is available on cable and satellite outlets as well as on streaming platforms such as FRNDLY.

Kirk Cameron in Lifemark, Hollywood studios reject "Lifemark"

3. Lifemark (Home Video)

A high school teenager is given the option of meeting his birth mom for the first time. This adoption-centric movie was produced by the same filmmakers (Alex and Stephen Kendrick) who made War Room and Overcomer. It stars Raphael Ruggero, Kirk Cameron, Dawn Long and Rebecca Rogers. "We're hoping it will not only save lives, but we're hoping it will inspire a lot of believers to support adoption in their local communities," Stephen Kendrick told Crosswalk. It launches on home video platforms on Dec. 13.

4. Why the Nativity? (Various Platforms)

The Bethlehem story is explored in this powerful docudrama that takes viewers back in time to the day Jesus was born. It is the first movie from Turning Point Studios, a division of Turning Point for God by Dr. David Jeremiah. Jeremiah narrates it. The film "explores questions, facts and history seldom seen in traditional Nativity stories," according to Turning Point. Visit WhyTheNativity.org.

An Angelic Christmas

5. An Angelic Christmas (PureFlix)

An angel teams up with a young girl to help her family and her town regain their Christmas spirit. This Hallmark-like PureFlix original film stars Karen Abercrombie (War Room) as the angel (named Celest), Cameron Arnett (Overcomer, Vindication) as an angel named Chief, and Alicia Fusting (The Mulligan) as the young girl's mom. My 7-year-old son loved it.

6. It's Christmas Again (Home Video)

A teenage boy discovers the true meaning of Christmas after an accident lands him in Bethlehem the night Jesus was born. This faith-based, teen-centric musical includes elements of Netflix's A Week Away and the classic story A Christmas Carol. It was directed and written by Sandra L. Martin (My Sweet Holiday, Christmas Comes Home). Visit ItsChristmasAgainMovie.com.

7. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol (Netflix)

The famous Charles Dickens story is retold in this animated musical starring Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast, Fast & Furious 6) as Scrooge and Johnny Flynn (Emma, The Dig) as Bob Cratchit. Even though we know the story by heart, it remains a powerful tale of redemption and second chances. Rated TV-Y7.
