Dallas Jenkins Teams with Amazon for New Biblical Drama ‘Joseph of Egypt’

Amazon's expansion into biblical dramas will continue with a new series based on the life of Joshua, developed in partnership with The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins. Variety reported new details this week about the previously announced project, which will be titled Joseph of Egypt and executive-produced by Jenkins. Filmmaker Craig Wright will serve as writer and executive producer.

Amazon MGM Studios is teaming up with 5&2 Studios on the series.

"Betrayed by jealous brothers, Joseph defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh," the tagline reads. "But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test."

Amazon's Prime Video is becoming a go-to for epic faith-based and family projects. It already was the home of two major series, House of David and The Rings of Power, when in February, it became the exclusive home to The Chosen, giving Prime Video a 90-day window for new releases following their theatrical release. It also is home to the forthcoming unscripted series The Chosen in The Wild With Bear Grylls.

Seasons 6 and 7 -- the final two seasons of The Chosen -- are expected to release from 2026 to 2028, capping a series that has become the most popular faith entertainment project in the modern era. That, though, will not be the end of Jenkins' biblical projects. Last fall he unveiled plans for three new live-action series that include Joseph but also ones on Moses and the book of Acts (The Way of The Chosen).

Jenkins revealed his heart for the Joseph series during last year's ChosenCon in Orlando, noting that Joseph and his father, Jacob, lived long before God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses.

"And so in many ways, these stories are the reason that Moses was given the law, and Moses's stories are the reason that Jesus came," Jenkins said at ChosenCon. "And so we want that through-line through all of these projects -- that even when they're Old Testament projects, they're really ultimately Jesus projects."

The series, he said, will be a limited eight-episode series.

"We're going to cover some of the backstory of Jacob and Rachel and Leah," he told ChosenCon attendees, "and we're going to get into the birth of the 12 brothers who were, of course, the forebears of the 12 tribes of Israel."
