Poor Old Me

by Berni Dymet

Prov. 14:21 Those who despise their neighbors are sinners, but happy are those who are kind to the poor.

Every now and then we get to thinking "Poor old me." Maybe things aren't going so well here or there - or we're feeling rundown, a bit low.

Poor old me.

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to stand in the middle of a poor village in India.

These people lived in such abject poverty - I wept.

Truth is - until that moment I had no idea what poor meant. I don't know your financial circumstances.

What I do know is that Jesus spent most of His time amongst the poor. And his strongest language was reserved for the often wealthy religious hypocrites.

Each one of us can find a way to put food on someone's table that doesn't have enough to eat. Each one of us can find a way to put a roof over the heads of a family that have no shelter.

Each one of us can find a way to bring compassion and comfort to someone who's hurting. It's a Jesus thing.
