Freedom from Fear - Beloved Women - February 26, 2021
READ: “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7 ESV)
TODAY'S ENCOURAGEMENT: Whether it is a mass shooting or an unstable political climate this world is constantly morphing towards more instability. Despite the conditions around us, we cannot live in fear. A spirit of fear is oppressive, haunting, and dominating in nature. It overrides courage in a way that drastically alters one’s behavior.
This is why the Apostle Paul reminded Timothy that a spirit of fear does not come from God. The question we must ask ourselves is, if not God then who? To repeatedly defeat fear we must realize life crippling fear comes from Satan. Scripture tells us in John 10: 10a (ESV) that he desires to “steal, kill and destroy.”
What has a “spirit of fear” stolen from you? Has it destroyed your dreams or killed your hope? If so, take heart because we are not fighting alone but with the God of the universe backing us. Where we have been robbed by fear and left trembling on the side of the road God makes us brave. Through His word, we can destroy the power of fear in our lives.
PRAY: Dear God, I know You have not given me a spirit of fear. When I am overcome by fear, I ask You help me to recognize that life crippling fear does not come from You but Satan. Please help me to trust that in You I can defeat my fears. In Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
REFLECT: How have you been crippled by a spirit of fear?
