But If Not – Beloved Women – July 16, 2020
READ: “If this be so, our God, whom we serve, can deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” (Daniel 3:17-18 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: It’s easy to trust God when things are going our way, when it seems like He’s answering our prayers, and there are no problems. Somehow, we have equated answered prayers with a problem-free life. However, during circumstances not of our choosing, God can set us free even as we deal with the problems and the pain. We learn that God hears us even when the outcome is not what we anticipate, because we remember the promises of His word – that he is working all things for our good, especially if we trust Him. God is faithful when our faith wavers.
Could we, like the three Hebrew boys, say, “But if not.” Will we still trust God, regardless of the outcome? When we look back and remember His faithfulness to us, it becomes easier to say, “but if not.” Remembering reminds us that He is faithful and worthy of our but if nots. As we look back and remember His goodness towards us, like the Hebrew boys, we can say but if not, because He is worth it all.
PRAY: Dear Lord, when we think about the moments our souls were empty and how You filled them in, we see how You have sustained us. Thank You Lord for Your sustaining power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
