Turn it Off!– Beloved Women – June 7, 2019
“Be very careful, then, how you live---not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16 NIV
Quick confession: I have a knack for getting lost on the web, moving from one article to the next, watching random Facebook videos, smiling over pretty Pinterest posts, and of course, Instagram. This often means that a 15 minute internet browse turns into hours spent scouring the web with very little to show for it (except my wealth of random information).
If you’re anything like me, then you’ve suffered from information overload and all the distractions that come with it. Here is how to have an information detox:
- Start by being honest about your struggles.
- Ask God for help to overcome these struggles
- Take action. The quickest way is to turn it off. This may mean turning off your data, putting your phone and devices away, or blocking your access to these places, as often as possible.
It will be hard, but worth it. No matter what happens, please remember it is God who gives the power to overcome.
Dear Father, I need you. Lord, I need your strength to guard my senses, to use my time wisely, and not to waste the precious moments you have given me. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.
Take an inventory of how you spend your time each day and ask God to help you focus on the right things.
