Overcoming the Comparison Trap – Beloved Women – October 20, 2020
READ: “A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.” (Proverbs 14:30 ESV)
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: Social media is an extremely powerful tool to stay connected with close friends, family, and for networking. However, it can also be a dangerous comparison trap. When we scroll through polished pictures and meticulously crafted posts, it is easy to compare, and fall into the trap of wanting what “they” have. When we take our eyes off God’s blessings and have envy, it is important that we repent. God desires for us to have our hearts focus on the life giving ways in which God is moving in our own lives.
Today’s verse reminds us that envy and comparison will ultimately eat away at us. Today, I invite you to exchange comparisons for the sweet contentment in God. The enemy attempts to use comparison to steal our joy and distract our focus from God. Despite the enemy’s tactics, God has given us the strength to overcome envy and comparison. Continue to give God praise for the abundant blessings in your life and celebrate how God is moving in the lives of others.
PRAY: Dear God, thank you for helping me find contentment in You alone. Please forgive me for times I have compared myself to others. Thank you for helping me to continue to celebrate the gifts of others, while continuing to use the gifts You have given me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
REFLECT: What is one area that you desire for God to help you overcome the need for comparison?
