December 12

Read Hebrews 1 -- 4

It was angels who delivered Lot out of Sodom (Genesis 19:13); who ministered to Jesus following His 40-day fast (Matthew 4:11); and who delivered Peter from prison (Acts 12:11). But, even more comforting to us is to know that angels are sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation (Hebrews 1:14), including you and me.

Oh, how thankful we should be that the Angel of the Lord encamps round about them that fear Him, and delivers them (Psalms 34:7). Again, He has said that He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways (91:11). But the importance of the angels is insignificant compared to the importance of Christ: God . . . has in these last days spoken to us by His Son . . . Heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; Who . . . when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels (Hebrews 1:1-4). With His earthly work completed, the Supreme High Priest for all mankind sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high (1:3). He alone could become a merciful and faithful High Priest . . . to make reconciliation for the sins of the people (2:17).

The prophets were men of God who allowed Him to possess their hearts, to control their minds, and to order their tongues so that they spoke not their own words but His Words (see 2 Peter 1:21).

The honors conferred upon Moses were greater than those bestowed upon any other man before or since, for through him the whole Levitical Tabernacle and worship system were instituted. But Christ is far superior, inasmuch as He is God Himself: This Man (Jesus) was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who has built the house has more honor than the house (Hebrews 3:3). Moses delivered Israel from Egypt; but Christ delivered all who receive Him from eternal hell. Even when it seems that Satan has devastated our lives, God, who created and rules the universe, is making the works of Satan and the wrath of men to serve Him and further His ultimate will for each one of us.

The full revelation and manifestation of the love of God is seen only through Christ, our High Priest, who is the express image of His Person . . . unto the Son He said, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever. . . . For we have not a High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 1:3; 4:15-16).
