Of Aliens and UFOs
By Lynette Kittle

“They are not of the world, even as I am not of it” - John 17:16

Aliens and UFO sightings are becoming more prominent in the mainstream news and media. Whereas in the past, these topics were considered living in science fiction, nowadays, the discussion is coming to the forefront of modern-day worries and considerations.

Interest in outer space, aliens, and UFOs began taking off and gaining public interest in the late 1800s and early 1900s with the writings of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.

The 1950s ushered in a classic era of science fiction theater, with the surge of low-budget, comic-book style films targeted at teenage audiences, proposing alien threats to humanity, UFO invasions, and abductions creating War of the World, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and It Came From Outer Space

Extraterrestrial attention began to surge with the 1970-1980s films Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Wars, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, heightening curiosity to create an even greater and more acceptable belief and interest in aliens and UFOS.

What was once considered farfetched and bazaar made its way to the mainstream and main stage of our culture and thinking, progressing today to networks and programs dedicated to discussing the possibilities, offering an array of shows including Ancient Aliens, UFOs: Untold Stories, Nasa’s Unexplained Files, and more.

As well the possibility of “what if humans are the aliens on earth” gained awareness, lining up with The Church of Scientology's beliefs, birthed by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard and his writings. His doctrine states a human is an immortal, spiritual being (thetan) resident in a physical body, or spelled out in easier terms, an alien life form that inhabits humans.

What Does the Bible Say?
Of course, God has written the book on what is coming to our world, so there are no surprises to Him as to where human interest is drifting. He has already covered society’s curiosity concerning alien and UFO theories. Hubbard’s doctrine is a false copycat, a counterfeit of God’s truth. As described in Genesis 2:7, human breath and life did come from an out-of-this-world source. “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Likewise, in praying for His disciples, Jesus differentiates who are citizens of this world and who are aliens in it, saying, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of it” (John 17:16). He continues to distinguish His followers in John 18:36, “Jesus said, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, My servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now My kingdom is from another place.’”

A Look at a Snatching Away and UFOS
Although the world seems to be preparing people for snatching away on earth by aliens, it's only copying and counterfeiting what Jesus taught when He walked the earth and what the Church continues to teach.

John 14:3 records Jesus saying, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am.”

As well, in Mark 13:26,27, Jesus explains more of what is coming to the world and of His plans to come back and take us with Him. At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And He will send his angels and gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.”

Scripture paints a vivid picture of what is coming to our world and the future of those who belong to Jesus Christ.

Intersecting Faith and Life:
How are you addressing the topic of aliens and UFOS? Are you seeing it as an opportunity to share what God’s Word says about Jesus returning for His followers? Ask God to give you the words and opportunities to share the hope of His Salvation and soon return with your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors.
