Actress Charged for Illegally Importing Dogs

Amber Heard is a successful actress, but she's arguably more famous for being Johnny Depp's wife.  The latter is in Australia, filming the fifth installment in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

Last May, the couple brought their Yorkshire terriers into the country without quarantining them.  Australian officials discovered their transgression and gave them 72 hours to remove the dogs.  The couple complied.  However, Heard has now been summoned to appear in a Queensland court on September 7.

In other news, scientists in Israel have announced the Nano Bible.  To create it, they etched the 1.2 million letters of the Old Testament onto a disk no larger than the tip of a pen.  To read it, you'll need an electron microscope to magnify the font about 10,000 times.  The Nano Bible is on display as part of the Israel Museum's 50th anniversary exhibit.  It sits next to the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical texts which are around 2,000 years old.

Here's another story from Israel you may have missed: a dozen Hall of Fame football players were recently baptized in the Jordan River.  New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft sponsored the trip, which brought numerous players to the Holy Land on a goodwill expedition.  Chris Doleman called his baptism the highlight of his trip.

Time reveals what matters most.  Wealthy world-famous actors must adhere to the same laws as the rest of society.  Writings that were once ignored by the world are now valued beyond price.  Men who achieve football immortality later discover what true immortality means.

Legendary publisher Horace Greeley noted: "Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, and riches take wings.  Only one thing endures and that is character."

Think about those people whose lives most influenced yours for good.  Was it their wealth?  Their popularity?  Was it what they did, or who they were?  The longer I live, the more I realize that character is the key to legacy.

When Joshua asked God to stop the sun, "The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day.  There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord heeded the voice of a man" (Joshua 10:13-14).  Joshua chose to serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15), and God used his character to create a nation.

David said to God: "You have said, 'Seek my face.'  My heart says to you, 'Your face, Lord, do I seek'" (Psalm 27:8).  David chose to seek his Lord above all others, and God used his character to lead a nation.

If you must choose today between fame and faithfulness, chose faithfulness.  Guard your character at all costs. (Tweet this) And a culture caught in the morass of moral relativism will see your integrity and be drawn to its Source.

Lord Byron observed that "fame is the thirst of youth."  How thirsty are you?
