There’s a Storm Coming
By Carolyn Dale Newell

Monday, July 24, 2017

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV

When hurricane and flood warnings are issued, cities begin to prepare for the storms by sandbagging, boarding up windows, and buying supplies. They heed the warnings and they are prepared.

It is the same for Christians. Jesus has already warned us when He said, “In the world you will have tribulation” (John 16:33).

Expecting the storms will prevent us from being caught off guard. We will not end up like the foolish man.

“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell.” Matthew 7:26-27 NKJV.

Once we realize that storms are inevitable, what can we do to prepare for them? We can spend time in God’s Word learning about how much God cares for us and the promises that He has given us.

The cement that will hold it all together is trust.

We can have a good foundation when we whole-heartedly trust God. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 NKJV.

We believe that God will supply our every need because we trust Him. We believe that we can do all things through the strength of Jesus Christ.

We know that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. We know that we have no reason to worry or fear because our Father loves us, and values us – more than the sparrows.

That good foundation will keep us at peace while the storm rages around us. Start preparing for your storm now.

You have probably heard this before. If you are not in a storm now, you are either coming out of one, or you are getting ready to go through one. When we expect storms that takes the element of surprise out of our emotions.

It doesn’t catch us off-guard. If you were on a ship at sea, and you encountered a storm, you would trust the captain of the ship to bring you through.

As Christians, we trust God to guide us through the storms.

Dear Lord, thank You for warning us about impending storms. For those in the storm right now, have mercy on them and bring them safely through. Help us all to prepare for the next storm so we are not surprised by it. Thank You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
