Prayer: You Can Do It!

Café Menu for Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Today’s Special is: Prayer Doesn’t Have to Be Eloquent -- Just Spoken from the Heart

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Lara Sadowski

Main Ingredient:

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.

Psalm 17:6 NIV

Entrée:

Greetings sisters! Please know that as I write this devotional, I write it as a Jesus gal who does not pray NEARLY enough as she should. And I beat myself up for it. And the enemy has a big belly laugh on my behalf.

That is exactly the way Satan wants me to treat myself. With a big heaping spoonful of guilt. My friends, I am stopping that behavior right now. Anyone else with me?

I am always afraid that I won’t pray correctly, eloquently or in the right order. (Is there really a right order? But I digress!).

Well, since I obviously don’t pray the right way or say the right thing, I might as well not pray at all.

Ugh!

Can any of you ladies (and gentlemen, too) relate to that?

I am slowly discovering that God is not taking notes on how I pray. He just wants to hear from me. He wants to know what’s on my heart. And He wants me to hang out, put my head in His lap, and listen to Him as well.

And He knows that we all have incredibly busy lives. Kids to carpool. Jobs inside and outside the home to handle. Laundry to fold. Meals to make. Tears to wipe away. The list is endless. But so is Christ’s love for us.

E.M. Bounds said,

Prayer should not be regarded as a duty which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.

I love that! Ask the Lord today to help you begin to see prayer as a privilege, and then ask Him for a hunger to do it. I’m right there with you. Let’s do this together. He will meet us every day. Guaranteed! Be blessed!

Take Out:

Don’t be intimidated to pray. The Lord just wants to hear your voice and what’s on your heart. He will give you the words. Just be still and know that He is God.

Dessert:

Heavenly Father, please give me and all of Your daughters a hunger for prayer and time alone with You. Give us eyes to see You, ears to hear You, and a desire to know You through prayer. Thanks so much, Lord. We love You so dearly! In Jesus’ Name, Amen
