“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith …” Galatians 3:26 (NIV)

For years after I committed my life to Christ, I felt unworthy. I thought maybe if I did more good deeds, dedicated my life to the hardest of Christian service, and got my flaws under control, God would smile at me in approval. But aside from that, I believed when I reached heaven, Christ would only begrudgingly let me in.

After all, He promises salvation to those who put their trust in Him. “But you — go sit in the corner while the beautiful people take the front seats,” I imagined He would tell me.

The Bible gives a different perspective of God’s seating assignments in heaven.

The Apostle Paul told the Galatian church, “In Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith” (Galatians 3:26). Children — equal in God’s sight, for He plays no favorites. Paul spelled that out in Galatians 3:28-29: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (NIV).

And Romans 8:17 tells us if we are children of God, we are “co-heirs with Christ” (NIV). We receive the same inheritance in eternity that Christ already has. Our faith in Christ defines us, not what we have done or who the world perceives us to be.

Jesus’ treatment of people gives us an example of what equality in Him looks like. In John 3, Jesus discussed with Nicodemus, a member of the upper echelon of Jewish society, how he could be part of God’s Kingdom. In John 4, Jesus gave the same invitation to the lowest and most despised member of that culture: a Samaritan woman with a blemished past.

Friends, no one is more important or less valued than anyone else in heaven’s halls. All of us who have true faith in Christ will stand before God with equal access and shared victory. In heaven, there is no second row.

If you have put your faith in Jesus, one day you will link arms with both Jewish scholars and Samaritan women who share your faith. Jesus died for them, and He died for you too. You accept His gift of grace — and that’s enough. You will stand together with all believers before the throne of God, equally loved, accepted, and celebrated by the King of kings.

Maybe, like me, you’re tempted to feel less-than in God’s sight or think you must reach a certain level of holiness before God approves of you. I invite you to replace that illusion with God’s Truth. God already smiles on you. You are saved by His grace, and you are welcome in His presence.

Lord, I praise You for releasing me from the pressure to earn Your love based on what I do on this earth. Thank You for forgiving my past and making it possible for me to one day stand in Your presence as Your beloved child. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

OUR FAVORITE THINGS

A lot of us walk around thinking we’re the only ones who feel behind ... the only ones who downplay our pain, minimize our dreams, or try to make our grief sound “reasonable.” But that’s not the truth — and it’s not how God sees you. Unpolished is our brand-new reflection journal resource designed to give you permission to stop pretending and start paying attention. It helps you name what you’ve been afraid to admit and the lies you’ve accidentally agreed with — the ones that whisper, You’re unqualified. Too emotional. Too late. Too messy. In every prompt, the journal points you back to a God who doesn’t recruit the version of you who has it all figured out. He calls the version of you who’s still scared, still questioning, but brave enough to sit at His feet. You don’t have to clean yourself up before you talk to Him. He already loves the unpolished pieces. Download your copy of Unpolished today, and let God do the rest!

FOR DEEPER STUDY

Romans 8:1, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus …” (NIV).

Do you ever feel unworthy before God? Whenever those emotions arise and you are tempted to feel like a second-rate citizen compared to other Christians, repeat Romans 8:1 to yourself. If you are in Christ Jesus, no one can look down on you. Isn’t that wonderful?

What other Bible verses reassure you of your equal status in heaven? Share your thoughts in the comments.
