Hands-on Faith for Families – week of July 8, 2019

Theme: Put on the Full Amor of God

Breastplate of Righteousness

Scripture: Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, (Ephesians 6:14 ESV)

Play: Take turns naming creatures whose bodies help protect them from danger (turtles, lobsters, snails), and tell how their bodies protect them.

Talk: Turtles, lobsters and snails defend themselves from their enemies with their hard shells. We don’t have shells, but Ephesians 6:14 tells us that God has offered us an important piece of armor — the breastplate of righteousness. A breastplate protects a soldier’s heart, and to be righteous means to be right with God through faith in Jesus. If you trust in Jesus, His righteousness will help guard your heart so that it will remain good and pleasing to God. What kind of heart is pleasing to God (a generous heart, a forgiving heart, etc.)?

Pray: Pray that Jesus’ righteousness would shield your heart.
