From the Page to Our Hearts
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26 NKJV).
Have you ever been reading the Bible and a passage seemed to jump off the page because it was so relevant to your situation? Or maybe someone sent you a Scripture verse that was very appropriate for what you were facing. Perhaps you were in church listening to a message, and it felt as though the speaker wrote it just for you.
That is what the Holy Spirit does. He teaches us. Jesus said, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26 NKJV).
Jesus also said, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” (verse 16 NKJV).
The Holy Spirit can open Scripture passages to us in an incredible way, and that comes as we study and read the Bible. The Holy Spirit takes the Word of God and brings it home to our hearts. That’s part of the work He does in the life of the believer.
It isn’t some great preacher; it’s a great God whose Holy Spirit illuminates His Word. He sheds more light on the original light. The apostle Paul wrote, “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him’” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NKJV).
If you want the Holy Spirit to illuminate Scripture, then you must read it or listen to it. You can’t simply hold the Bible up to your head and pray that you absorb it somehow. You need to read it and process it, and then the Holy Spirit will bring it to life for you.
