What's Your Purpose?

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. - Philippians 1:21

Every one of us has something that moves us in life.  Something we are excited about.  The Apostle Paul said, "For to me, to live is Christ" (Philippians 1:21).  That was Paul's purpose.  That was where he was going.

What is your purpose in life?  If you were to complete this statement: "For to me, to live is _______," what would you say?  For to me, to live is fun.  For to me, to live is pleasure.  For to me, to live is money.  For to me, to live is success.  For to me, to live is sex.  No matter what it is, everybody lives for something.

What we need is purpose in our lives where we can say with Paul, "For to me, to live is Christ."  Notice that after Paul said this, he continued, "and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).  Only the person who has said, "For to me, to live is Christ" can say, "To die is gain."  When you live for Christ you don't have to fear death, because you know that death is nothing more than a transition from point A to point B: from a body that is wearing out to a new body that God has created for us; from an earth that is corrupt and separated from God to a new heaven and a new earth; from sin and temptation to that place where there is no more sorrow.  But that's only when you can say, "For to me, to live is Christ."  Then you can look death square in the face and you don't have to be afraid.

What are you living for?  What is your purpose in life?
