Finding Hope When You Feel Like You’re Losing Your Way - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - October 8, 2026
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” - Proverbs 3:5-6
There are seasons in life that are confusing. Prayer feels quiet, and the path ahead is blurry. We find hope in these moments not by having all the answers (or thinking we have them), but by trusting a God who possesses them.
We have all gone through times like these. Maybe when you were young, you applied to several colleges and got rejected, which led you to question where to apply next. Right now, people are applying and interviewing for jobs and getting rejected left and right, and they don’t know what to do next. Keep applying or try a different path, like freelancing or starting a business? Some people are losing their jobs, leaving them feeling hopeless and unsure about the next step. There are lots of different situations we can wind up in that make us feel hopeless and that we are losing our way.
It’s easy for panic and anxiety to take over. I know, I’ve been there. Still, feeling lost does not mean that God has left us. He is often working in the background, where we don’t see him. He will lead us one step at a time in the direction we should go, and hope will grow when we choose to trust the Lord over our own fear.
The Lord Always Sees Us
Even though we feel alone, we aren’t alone. God is with us in every moment of our lives. Psalm 139 tells us we can never escape from God’s spirit or his presence. That His hand will guide us and his strength will support us. It shows us that God’s care is constant, even when we are shaky. This is fantastic news when we feel lost.
If You Trust Him, God Will Guide You
Isaiah 30 tells us we will hear God telling us where to go. How he guides is different for everyone because he speaks to us in different ways. However, he will tell us which direction to go. He may not give us the entire map of our journey, but he always gives us enough light to take the next step.
God Strengthens Our Faith During Uncertain Seasons
When we are losing hope and don’t know the way forward, it’s easy to think that the Lord doesn’t care, or that he wants to punish us. Instead, we need to look at this from another angle. In seasons of confusion, we should depend on God more and rely on our understanding less. This can be extremely hard to do. It’s easy to get caught up in our own plans. What we need to remember is that what we may see as a detour may be part of God’s refining work. Detours aren’t always bad; it’s often a way to help us grow, see things differently, and move us in the direction He intends for us to go.
Ways to Reflect
- Where in your life do you need to remember God is near?
- Are you waiting for the entire plan to be revealed when God is asking you to trust him today?
- How may God be shaping your heart in this season?
- What are some ways to quiet your heart and mind to hear from God?
Practical Application
- Before making a decision, pause and pray.
- Replace your anxious thoughts by reading God’s promises.
- Look for wisdom in Scripture and godly counsel.
- Take one step in faith, even if you can’t see the entire road ahead.
A Few Words of Encouragement
Remember, you don’t have to find your way on your own. Jesus is always with you, ready to guide you on the path ahead. When you feel lost, he will always faithfully lead you back to peace and hope.
Let’s pray ...
Dear Lord,
I’m feeling so hopeless and lost today; I don’t know what to do next. Please help me trust you. Calm my fears and anxieties, giving me peace for today and the faith to take the next steps. Guide me in your truth and restore my hope. In your name I pray.
Amen.
