How to Walk Faithfully With God - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - February 23, 2026
“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away” (Genesis 5:24).
Most of us have heard about the importance of walking with God. However, after we leave church or close our devotionals, we carry on with our everyday life. Rather than making a change to walk faithfully with God, we choose to walk in accordance with our own sinful flesh. Each of us is given a choice every day to walk with God or to walk with the sinful flesh.
Paul tells us, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They conflict with each other, so you are not to do whatever you want. But if the Spirit leads you, you are not under the law” (Galatians 5:16-18).
It is not wise to walk in accordance with the sinful flesh, as it will lead us further away from God. If we want to walk faithfully in accordance with God, we will need to obey Him. Jesus tells us, “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Loving Jesus will cause us to want to obey Him.
None of us wants to hurt the ones we love, and Jesus is no exception. Obeying Jesus means doing the right thing and turning away from sin. If we continue to walk in sin, there will be consequences for our actions. For example, if we lie to a friend, they might not want to be our friend anymore. Or if we steal from someone, they might not let us back into their business.
There will always be consequences for our sin because God wants us to turn away from evil. Sadly, even with these consequences, many people continue to walk in accordance with the sinful flesh. Even though they might lose loved ones or great opportunities because of their sin, they continue to walk along this dark path.
Nobody is too far gone from God. If anyone would turn to Him, confess their sins, and ask for forgiveness, they will be forgiven and purified from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Therefore, if this is a doubt that is holding you back, leave your doubts behind. God will forgive you—all you have to do is turn to Him.
Through the Bible, we hear of many noble stories of certain followers of God. Within the Book of Genesis, we learn about Enoch. Genesis 5:24 says, “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” From this passage, we see that Enoch was a man who walked in step with God. He didn’t die, but rather, he was taken from earth into Heaven.
Many scholars believe that since he walked faithfully with God, God spared Enoch from having to feel the sting of death. While little is said about Enoch in the Bible after this account, we learn all we need in Genesis 5:24: Enoch walked faithfully with God. As believers, we should follow Enoch’s example and walk in alignment with God.
Faithfully following God will result in a fulfilling and joyful life.
While God won’t take us off this earth, He will continue to be with us. He will equip us with everything we need to do His will. Therefore, if you want to start walking faithfully with God, you need to obey Him. Start reading the Bible and learn what God is teaching you through its pages. Everything written in the Bible can help you live a holy and godly life (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
No matter how far gone you think you might be, return to Him. You can turn your life around with God’s help. As Enoch walked faithfully with God, so can you. However, you have to make the active choice each day to walk with Him.
Faithfully walking with God is not a one-time thing. Instead, it is something that we will continue to do for the rest of our lives.
Choose to walk with Him today. All it takes is the first step, and the others will follow soon after. Work on your relationship with God, grow in Him, and love Him with all your heart.
“Dear God, I want to walk faithfully with You as Enoch did. I have struggled with walking in accordance with the sinful flesh rather than walking in step with You for a long time. Please help me return to You and start walking faithfully by Your side. Fill my heart with Your fulfillment and joy. I give You all the praise and glory, Amen.”
