Scripture Is a Miracle - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - April 22, 2026
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16
Throughout my years as a Christian, I have struggled with chronic pain and inflammation. Most of the time, I push through without complaining. However, there have been times when I've had debilitating headaches or neck pain, which have inhibited me from completing my daily tasks or enjoying social activities. I thought about having the church elders pray over me, as James 5 says, and seeing if the Lord would want to heal me. But instead, I run to the chiropractor or my medicine cabinet before I run to God.
I often forget God is a miracle worker. He has raised people from the dead, driven out demons, and healed the sick. Because I don't see it in my church often enough, I often forget how powerful God can be. I often use conventional methods to heal my disease, partly because I know they work and partly because I'm afraid that if I pray for healing and don't receive it, then it might test my faith.
One time, I was struggling with a stomachache that would not go away. At a church meeting that evening, I felt compelled to ask the elders and the District Superintendent to lay hands on me. At once, I felt a healing, warming sensation on my shoulder. It felt as if one of the people who prayed for me had gotten warmer.
After they prayed for me, my stomachache went away. I went up to one of my leaders and asked if it was their hand on my shoulder. When they confirmed that it was, I told him it felt hot and that the stomachache went away in a few moments. We rejoiced in God's power in that moment.
The word of God can be powerful in our lives. We can use it for righteous living and to understand our identity in Christ. But have you ever considered the Bible to be a miracle? According to this verse, Scripture is "God-breathed," meaning God breathed his life into the Scriptures. They're not simply words on the page. They were placed there by God through the writers he appointed, to breathe life into us.
Many of us look for miracles both in the world and in our churches. However, we don't always see them as we would like. However, we often forget that Scripture itself is a miracle. The gospels alone provide four eyewitness accounts of Christ's death and resurrection. He performed this miracle in front of 500 people.
However, we take this for granted because the gospels are readily available to us. If we embraced the gospels, as well as all of Scripture, as the miracle that they are, we would probably do more to live righteously and to use them for God's glory.
In what way have the Scriptures been a miracle to you? Has a verse popped out to you in such a way that it speaks to your soul? Did you feel compelled to obey and change your behavior because of what you read? Did you recite a Bible verse or passage to a nonbeliever and watch as they became more interested in who Jesus is because of the miracle of the Scriptures?
Just as our being born is a miracle, so are the Scriptures. It is the only book that has stood the test of time, and whose story never changes. It is the story of an unchanging God who loves us and gave up his son so that we may have eternal life.
That's the greatest miracle we have, or ever could have, in this life.
Father, let us remember that the Scriptures are a miracle. Even when we don't see miracles in everyday life, let it help us remember that this Scripture speaks not only of the physical miracles Jesus performed but also of our birth and our identity in him. Let us read the Bible each day, looking for your miracles and rejoicing in your goodness. Amen.
