Seeking Comfort When You Need God to Warm Your Heart - iBeleive Truth: A Devotional for Women - October 3, 2026
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
We have this shared experience of feeling isolated and alone when life hits hard. Those gut-wrenching struggles, rejections, griefs, and sorrows, we often find ourselves carrying solely on our own, even when we’re among friends who have our backs. Franz Schubert puts it so well: “No one feels another’s grief, no one understands another’s joy. People imagine that they can reach one another. In reality, they only pass each other.” This may be up for debate, but we can’t deny there’s a seed of truth in it.
“This infinite abyss can be filled only with an infinite and immutable object; in other words, by God.”-- Blaise Pascal, Pensées.
There’s that hollow space in our hearts only He can fill. And I believe He did so for our own good. If others can fill that space, or carry our burden, our grief for us, then what do we actually need God for? Humans have this propensity to discard God the moment He’s no longer needed. So, God designed us this way, knowing that our very survival hinges upon His grace. Only by clinging to Him can He guide us toward the Holy path. So if life has felt heavy lately, here are some of the most well-loved Bible verses that remind you of God’s abiding presence when you need Him to warm your heart, softening the blows life hurls at you.
Bible Verses for Comfort and Encouragement

Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)

Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you.”
A Reminder When You Feel God Has Turned His Back on You.
Our situations can change tack in a snap at a time when we least expect it. But it’s worth knowing that the ups and downs, the turbulence we go through, don’t mirror or gauge the depth of God’s love for us. The story of Jacob and Esau reminds us that our life’s circumstances don’t hinge on how deeply God cares about us.
“Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” - Romans 9:13 NKJV
Pastor Paul Washer delivered a sermon about the lessons we could draw from the story of Jacob and Esau. He said God “blessed Esau with wealth, with power. He became a great leader, a great nation. God blessed Esau... So, how was God's hatred manifested toward Esau? God never disciplined Esau.”
We’d thought Jacob would coast through life much more easily than Esau upon reading the verse. Quite the opposite, actually. Jacob went through a lot more than his brother did. His deception didn’t go unpunished. He paid a heavy price for it when he served 7 years of hard labor for Rachel, only to end up marrying her elder sister when Laban switched Rachel with Leah on their wedding night. And this was on top of Laban’s cycle of exploitation, changing Jacob's wages more often than is ethically acceptable. But the greatest pain of his life still lay ahead: losing Rachel, his most beloved wife, and years of separation from his son, Joseph, who he thought was brutally mauled to death by a lion.’ ( These may or may not have anything to do with the discipline God imposed on Jacob, but we can all agree that these painful chapters of his life shaped him into the kind of man the Lord envisioned him to be).
At times, when you go through hard seasons, you may begin to ask yourself whether you’re loved and whether God is on your side. Revisiting the hardships, the stories of resilience and survival of God’s most loved servants should remind us that God’s love can never be gauged by how easy and convenient our lives are. Because as a child of God, not only are your life’s changing circumstances safely held in His Hand, there’s also a gift hidden behind your difficult season.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 NKJV.
