“The LORD had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’” - Genesis 12:1 NIV

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to achieve a milestone? Perhaps reaching that one life goal will finally allow you to leave a legacy behind. Yet it remains only a thought—an impossible dream pinned to your vision board and quietly tucked away in your closet. Yes, you get that occasional twinge of envy because some of your closest friends moved on, pursuing life goals you all talked about and laughed about when you were younger. And here you are, you can’t even get yourself out of your familiar comforts.  You don’t know how to take that leap of faith.

Abram was comfortable living in Harran with his wife, Sarah, and his family. He had already amassed wealth as well as a houseful of servants. Life was good, and his retirement years looked great. Goal achieved!  But at 75, and probably with no thought than to sail into the sunset, God decided to do a little shake-up by telling him He wasn’t done with him yet.

Abram was given a new goal to accomplish. But God didn’t leave him without the assurance of what the outcome will be if he fulfills it. God said:

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
And all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3)

Abram focused on his first step, the small beginning—pack up everyone and everything and get going. All he needed was God’s roadmap. And he was off, pressing forward to lay hold of what’s in store in their future home and to receive the promised blessings. Abram’s life story and example had an immeasurable impact on generations that followed.

Think about your life now. Have you stopped moving forward with nothing to anticipate, or is there still a goal waiting quietly on the sidelines? Are you ready to experience the power of your beginning? Dig out that vision board from your closet and bring it to God in prayer for clarity and direction. “Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3 ESV). He is ready to guide you, offering the wisdom you need to move forward and reach meaningful milestones.

Second, step forward in faith. This is not the time to waver or keep asking, “How do I know if it’s God’s will?” Stop demanding repeated signs from God; He does not need to prove Himself to you. Instead, be “fully persuaded that God [has] power to do what he [has] promised” (Romans 4:21). Listen and obey. Go!

Last, “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). You may face starts and stops along the way, but keep going. This is what spiritual maturity is about—trusting God to help you finish your journey. In the end, you will receive the blessed assurance of a life well lived. It’s the highest goal to obtain and the legacy worth leaving.

Let’s pray ...

Gracious Father,
Help me be more intentional about where I focus my energy from this day forward. Thank You for guiding me toward the goals You have for my life. Help me listen, trust You with confidence, and follow as You lead me beyond my comfort zone. I am fixing my eyes on You as I move forward.
Amen.
