Fleeting Football Riches
by Rick Boxx
February 18, 2010

A recent CNN report claimed that 78% of National Football League players file bankruptcy, or are in financial distress, within two years of their retirement. It's easy to understand their plight, when you realize that most are in their early 20s when they begin receiving huge sums of money.

The average pro football player's career is only 3 years according to answers.com. By the time the euphoria of having so much money subsides, their career is over.

Proverbs 21:17 warns, "Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man; he who loves wine and oil will not be rich."

For those who have huge earning capacity it's wise to remember that saving for the future is critical. Squandering wealth only on our enjoyment will be short lived.
