Who Wants to Be a Lemming?
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you know what a lemming is? A little animal who somehow gets in his mind a weird compulsion. And then all of them get it. They go headlong on a journey toward the sea. Over the mountains they go. Across the rivers they go. Through the woods they go, on and on until they get to the sea. Then they all jump in and drown. They're doing everything to get there—then that's it.
There are a lot of lemmings these days, working, striving, building, all to end in a Christ-less existence. But you don't have to be like everybody else You have a great purpose in life. God saved you out of that meaninglessness.
It took the precious blood of Jesus, God’s spotless Lamb, to purchase your redemption. Jesus Christ didn’t come to save you from hell or save you for Heaven. He does save you from hell. You will go to Heaven, but that's a byproduct. He came to save you from your sins and make you holy. That’s the purpose of redemption. You have been redeemed to be a holy person. Thank God for Jesus’ spotless life sacrificial death.
Jesus Christ did not bathe this planet with His blood to have you serve the world, the flesh, and the devil. The chief religion in America is the cult of conformity. The theme is “everybody's doing it.” But God saved you out of that—for a purpose! “You are not your own. For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 19b-20). He redeemed you from meaninglessness. Know for certain—you have a purpose in life!
