Blessed are...

today's reading.
Matthew 5:1-16    Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him...
Matthew 5:1

think about it.
Jesus promotes values the opposite of our usual thinking (5:3-12); give some examples from your experience. Which beatitudes do you struggle with? Which ones have you personally seen? What makes salt worthwhile (5:13)? What makes light worthwhile (5:14-15)? How would you describe being salt and light in your world?

the blog.
Jesus' teaching in Matthew 5:1-11 is know. as the Beatitudes. He makes a number of "blessed are" statements that tell us about those things that are important to God. What wonderful insight and direction for us concerning our attitudes and actions. I spent a few minutes considering each one of these statements and how I did or did not fit these descriptions. Verse 6 really spoke to me. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

So how can we work on developing a hunger and thirst for righteousness? And what does hungering and thirsting for righteousness look like for you? Tami W.
