…”Israel cross over this Jordan on dry land; for the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the LORD, that is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever.

--Joshua 4:22-24

Alfred Nobel was a Swedish Chemist who invented dynamite and other powerful explosives used for weapons. When his brother died, one newspaper accidentally printed Alfred’s obituary instead of his brothers. It described Alfred as one who became rich by enabling people to kill each other in unprecedented numbers.

Shaken by that assessment of his life, Alfred stared at his own mistaken obituary, and resolved that the fortune he had made from his accomplishments would thereby be used for the benefit of all humanity, and thus began the Nobel Peace Prize. Nobel came to a defining moment in his life. He had the opportunity to look at his life and start over.

You also have that same opportunity to start over in Jesus Christ. Our biggest challenge today is to keep our eyes focused on Jesus. We’re called to cross over into the land God has promised, and stop aimlessly wandering about in the desert of life. Now is the time to possess what God has given us. Have you ever had a crossover experience in your life? A strong Christian once said, “Oh Lord, make my life a fork in the road so that every person who encounters me might choose yes or no for Jesus Christ.”

The Israelites chose to follow the Lord. As a result, God performed a miracle among them parting the waters of the Jordan River so they could walk across dry land and move toward God’s blessing. God didn’t say, “I’ll open it up and then you get in.” Instead, He said, “You get in and then I’ll open it up. Get your feet wet and see what happens. Just follow Me.” And the people of Israel watched as miraculously the waters parted and they walked on dry land. The Lord fulfilled His promise and did wonders in their midst, and they ultimately crossed over and claimed their Canaan.

Cross over, Christian. Move out of the desert and begin with obedience to God today. Then declare your belief in the faithfulness of the Lord. In defining moments, you are to prepare for new pathways of obedience and follow Christ at all costs, so you can cross over into the blessings that God has promised for your life.

YOU CAN’T GET TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO UNTIL

YOU LET GO OF WHERE YOU’VE BEEN.
