And now, little children abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.
--1 John 2:28
The Scripture verse for today urges you and me to “abide” in Christ until His return. What does this mean? Part of what it means is to spend time in God’s Word.
You know, one of the best habits we can have as believers is to memorize the Word of God and then make it our own. For example, if you find yourself worrying, remember Matthew 6:33, which says to seek first His Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
Or if you have an important decision to make, you might recall Proverbs 3:5-6, which says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Once you have memorized a verse, you can use it when you have a crisis or a need. You can recall it for strength and direction.
Remember too that abiding in God’s Word is so much more than just reading the Bible here and there. It means really taking the time to study God’s Word… to comprehend it and to meditate on it.
Make a commitment to spend time in His Word, and to make that a consistent habit. And strive to conform to God’s Word, to know Him intimately, and to abide in Him each day… so you can be ready for His return!
HAVE YOU SPENT TIME STUDYING AND MEDITATING ON GOD’S WORD TODAY?
