Your spiritual core
August 27, 2009
"How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?"
Many experts say that if you want to get in good physical shape, you need to strengthen your core. This same principle is true when it comes to strengthening yourself spiritually.
Joseph is someone who had a remarkably strong spiritual core. We see this expressed in the question he asked his master's wife in today's verse: "How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?"
What's interesting is that Joseph lived before Moses, way before the Ten Commandments were given. So when Potiphar's wife tried to seduce him, Joseph didn't have the seventh commandment to instruct him saying, "You shall not commit adultery" (Exodus 20:14).
Yet somehow Joseph knew instinctively that having sex with Potiphar's wife was a sin against God. How did he know that?
I believe he knew that because he had a deep and abiding love for God. Joseph knew God and he had developed a strong spiritual core that helped him discern what would and wouldn't please God.
So let me ask you, how strong is your spiritual core?
Like Joseph, you and I can't overcome the temptations of this world without God's help. And God wants to help!
So get in the Scripture and let him help you develop strong spiritual core. Commit yourself to knowing Jesus and to being nourished by your relationship with him… and being led by his Spirit.
YOU CANNOT OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS WITHOUT GOD'S HELP.
OUR THANKS TO YOU!
Do the words rested... peaceful... and refreshed describe you today? Or do the words stressed... rushed... and pressured better describe your way of life?
If you're like most Christians, you'd probably have to admit those last three words more accurately describe your life most of the time!
The good news is that it doesn't have to be this way... even when your life is one big pressure-cooker. And in my new book, Pause: Resting in God Instead of Stressing Out, I'll show you why.
Based on the principles from Paul's letter to the Philippians and Psalm 23, Pause: Resting in God Instead of Stressing Out will help you find true peace and rest in a world that is anything but peaceful and restful. It's the perfect "pause" button you need!
