How to love those closest to you
August 8, 2012
If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
1 John 4:20
I remember driving down the road one day when I was very young. I was in the back seat, my brother was in the front on the passenger side, and my mother driving. This was back before car seats were common, and I reached over to roll down the window. But instead of rolling down the window, I accidentally grabbed the door latch and flung it open!
We were going about 40 miles per hour down the road and I started to feel the air pulling me out. I knew I’d done the wrong thing, so I didn’t say anything. But I couldn’t for the life of me get the door closed! So the air sucked me right out of the door, and I landed on my head!
I’m lucky to be alive after that. But I remember my brother was the first one out of the car to help me. He picked me up in his arms, and I was so thankful he cared. He carried me back to the car and we went to the hospital. It was a vivid memory for me, not only because of the incident, but also because it made me realize how much I needed my brother’s love.
It pains me to hear that so many adult siblings today harbor bitterness and hatred against one another. If that describes you, reconcile with your brothers and sisters. That kind of love is so special, so don’t lose it!
LOVE BETWEEN SIBLINGS IS SPECIAL. RESOLVE ANY SEPARATION WITH YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS SO YOU DON’T LOSE IT.
