I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord.
--1 Corinthians 7:32
Today I want to speak specifically to those who are not married. Why would God choose to cause you to live a single life? Because God may give you a special ability to serve Christ without the responsibility of marriage and family life.
The apostle Paul, who was single himself, said that because of the distressful nature of the times and because times are urgent, single life allows you to serve God without distraction. What potential there is in the single life lived for Jesus Christ! Single adults can be placed into the heart and life of the church.
Some of the greatest Christians who ever lived have been single adults, starting with Paul. Then think about some of the greatest modern disciples who impacted entire nations—David Brainard, missionary to the Indians of North America; Lottie Moon, missionary to China; and Bertha Smith, who also served the people of China. There are so many more!
And don’t forget that our Lord Jesus Christ was single. He is the model of what it means to be committed to our heavenly Father’s plan. As a single person, you have a unique opportunity to give yourself unreservedly, completely, and totally to the service of Jesus Christ.
THINK ABOUT THE POSSIBLITIES FOR SERVICE IN GOD’S KINGDOM AS A SINGLE ADULT!
