Time with God - Apr. 7, 2011

Philippians 3:12-14

Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Make sure that your goals are ‘God goals’, not simply ‘good goals’!

Setting goals in your life is one of the most important things you do, because your goals set the direction of your life energy, what you focus on and move toward. It is important not to simply react to life, but to be pro-active and move with purpose.

However, the Lord is saying to us today to make sure that your purpose is a purpose that flows from His will for you. Paul recognized that he “was laid hold of by Christ Jesus” for a purpose. His desire in life was to fulfill that purpose. He “pressed on” to accomplish it.

And all the time, in the back of his mind, spurring him on, was the knowledge that at the end of the race he would go home to be with the Lord. And you will too! What a prize.
