At the Cross

1 Corinthians 1:18 (NIV®)

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

At the heart of the apostle Paul’s theology is the cross of Jesus Christ. He consistently asserts that the cross is the demonstration of the power of God, and to deny the cross is to deny the power of God.   Something remarkable happened on the cross: an exchange took place. The perfect, obedient, sinless Son of God took upon himself all of the punishment that was due by divine justice to me for my godlessness and my rebellion. In turn, I received all of the blessings and benefits that were due to Him for His perfect obedience. We don’t deserve it, and we can’t earn it. The power of God was demonstrated at that cross on Golgotha more than two thousand years ago. What you and I are asked to do is believe that, trust that, and appropriate that power in our lives.

Heavenly Father, how can I thank You for the Divine Exchange that took place on the cross? Your mercy and grace displayed there are beyond any words that my mind can summon or my tongue can express. With all my heart I believe in Your power, trust in it, and claim it in my life. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.
