DO YOU KNOW THE STORY OF COLONEL SANDERS OF KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN?
I don’t remember all the details, but a few things are boldly etched in my memory. I heard a sermon once about Col. Sanders. Turns out he was in his late 70’s, bankrupt and suicidal. He actually planned to kill himself under his favorite tree. His wife found him sitting under his favorite tree and went to speak to him.
“What are you doing out here?” she asked.
“Nothing,” he replied. He went on to tell her he was sorry he failed her and that they were bankrupt. He said, “I’m old and I have nothing to offer.”
“That’s a lie,” she stated. “You can cook!”
Three words changed his life! His wife encouraged him with three words that were true based on his talents. He could cook. Yes, he could. He took his fried chicken recipe and began cooking and selling it from gas stations. He tried to find an investor. He was turned down something like 150 times, but one man said, “I’ll invest in that chicken!” Long story short, Col. Sanders died a very wealthy man. More importantly, he died having finished well, realizing that his age, lack of money, and state of depression were no match for God.
Be encouraged today. Have faith. Read the Word. Ask God to help you in your weakness and help you focus on your talents and gifts… nothing is impossible for Him. Nothing!
