Pursuing a Transformation Fueled by Truth
By Dawn Tolbert

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Some days I look in the mirror and wish one of those makeover shows would come swooping in to help me!

You know, the ones that feature a woman who has lost a lot of weight or gone through a particularly trying time, and her friends have enlisted experts to help give her a new look. In just an hour minus commercial time, professionals transform that lady into a new and improved version of herself.

While that type of outward change may make for good entertainment, today’s verse calls us to focus on a more lasting metamorphosis. Rather than highlights that will fade or clothes that will go out of style, Scripture urges us to pursue a transformation that is internal and eternal.

We’ll “be transformed,” today’s verse says, as we renew or restore our minds. This occurs as we read Scripture and pray and yield to God’s Spirit within. The more we focus on Jesus and His truth, the more we’ll resemble Christ in us.

And here’s a fun bonus: as our thinking aligns with truth, our knowledge and understanding of God and His will increases.

Thank God for the promise of a closer relationship with Him and ask Him to transform your thinking and your life as you focus more fully on Him.
