Why do I allow that which is loudest rob me of what’s most important? An alert on my phone catches my attention. I open Facebook or Instagram and find multiple notifications. Everything from advertisements to party invitations to comments on posts I’m following. It never ends. In our loud, social media driven world, it can be hard to hear God’s voice and sense His presence. We need to be diligent to listen.
Sometimes I waste my spare ten or fifteen minutes reading a post about weight loss or make-up tips or something that adds little value to my life. What if I read my Bible instead? Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” When I read Scripture, I gain a renewed sense of purpose in Christ. I often feel more energized and alive. Many times, I want more. However, the opposite is also true. The longer I go without reading my Bible and connecting with Christ through prayer and worship, the more quickly I forget how good and important those moments are. They become too easy to put off.
The next time you have a few minutes to spare, try spending them reading your Bible or in prayer instead of on social media.
