A Prayer for Those Who Hide

“Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. -Jeremiah 23:24

Funny how, at the times we catch ourselves falling back to our instinctive sin nature, our first response is to hide from God. Remember when we hid as children? We felt we had the most perfect hiding spot in the universe. We would breathe that heavy sigh of relief, only to be found minutes later—much to our frustration. I’m raising my hand to admit that I might be the one sighing with the realization that no matter how I may try to run from God, He is in constant pursuit of me—because He loves me that much. I hid away talents gifted by God out of fear of rejection. But He brought me out of my hiding place, ever so gently. It was not with a heavy hand or malice. It was not with disappointment or condemnation. I only heard the whisper of the still small voice, “Are you ready now to share your gift?” That’s when I raised my eyes to seek Him, when all He wanted was all of me from the very beginning. I challenge us— you and I together, in one accord—to do more seeking and less hiding. It is the way that leads to joy.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am ready now. I am ready to give you my words, my heart, my hands, my feet, my family, my life. I am ready for you to use me in a powerful, mighty way to serve you and learn your ways. I know I have hidden away words that could have brought others to your Kingdom’s saving grace. I know that I might have stayed quiet in the past out of fear of rejection, but you have not rejected me, Oh God. You have brought me to the salvation that leads to eternal life and hope. You have brought me to my knees in praise. I thank you, Lord, for your patience with me. I know I may be weak at times, but I will lean on your strength.  I might wrestle with anxiety, but I will pray for your peace. I might fight with pain, but I will pray for your healing. Instead of hiding from you, Lord, let me hide in you. You are my hiding place and my ever-present help in trouble. Thank you for bringing me to your truth. I love you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
