A Prayer to Know God as Jehovah Jireh

"And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, "In the Mount of The Lord it shall be provided." Genesis 22:14 NKJV

For those not familiar with this passage, God tells Abraham he will have a son. Abraham waits 25 years until the fulfillment of that promise. His wife, Sarah, was “past childbearing years” when she conceived.
A few years pass since this miraculous birth, and God tells Abraham he must take Issac and sacrifice him. Abraham obeys, taking Isaac on a journey to Mount Moriah, where he ties Issac up to sacrifice him. With a knife in hand, the Angel of the Lord gets Abraham’s attention, showing him a ram stuck in the thicket. God provided, revealing His name as The Lord-Who-Provides or Jehovah-Jireh, in Greek.
Almost every time I think of Jireh, I think of financial provision. However, it dawned on me that there are numerous ways God provided. He can provide a vehicle, a home, a spouse, a friend, a baby, a job, purpose, and direction.
And let’s say that it’s not in His will to provide what we are asking for. He can still provide peace in our storm, comfort in our grief, and sustenance when we feel like we’ve hit rock bottom.
The Lord runs short of nothing. He has all that we need, and He is all that we need.
Instead of running to people, places, or things to fill us, let’s ask God to be all that we need in every situation that we face.
I recently got married after waiting for 20 years for a spouse. We dated for two years before we got married. When one of our closest friends got up to do his toast, he said this, “Since these two started dating, it felt like this day took forever to come. But that is our opinion, isn’t it? The Lord wasn’t looking at His watch like we were.” He went on to say that in Ecclesiastes 3, there is a time for everything. The day we got married was the perfect time.
The Lord knows what we need. He knows exactly when we need it. He won’t be late. He is working behind the scenes. He wants us to trust that He can and will provide, because that is who He is.
Even more than our needs, though, God the Father provided a way back to Him through Jesus Christ. If God the Father never did anything else for us, His sending His only Son would have been enough. We don’t have to pay the punishment for our sins because (we never could, no matter how hard we tried), Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, gave Himself for us. His blood atoned for our sin and satisfied the wrath of God.
Just like that ram took the place of Issac, Jesus took our place on that same mountain 2000 years later.
Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for who You are. Thank You for always being all that we need and always having all that we need. Father, I do not know what each reader needs today, but You do. If they are weary, please give them endurance and encouragement. If they are downcast, please lift their head. If they are waiting, please give them joy in the midst of it. If they’re grieving, I pray You would be their comfort. If they’re in a storm, please give them Your peace. If they’re short on funds, please provide.
Father, please help us to know You and see You as Jehovah-Jireh. Lord, please also open our eyes to see how You have already provided. Thank You for providing salvation to all who confess with their mouth and believe in their hearts that Jesus is Lord.
We love You. Please help us to trust in You and know You as Jehovah-Jireh.
