A Prayer to Know Your Limits Will Not Limit God’s Plan
By Keri Eichberger

Bible Reading:
“For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?” - Isaiah 14:27

Listen or Read Below:

I can’t recall the exact words spoken, but the message my heart heard was this: “Lord, let Mom know that nothing will stop you from using her in your Kingdom.” Eyelids closed tight, tears of peace and awe streamed down my cheeks, as my 18-year-old son stood over me, hand on my shoulder, voicing the most profound prayer I’d had poured over me. It was the morning of my surgery. A relatively major abdominal procedure that held hope of relieving debilitating back pain, which had been increasingly holding me back from fully living life, for what felt like way too long. My son and I share big kingdom passions and goals in common, and it was evident that morning that he “got” me. He knew my heart had been longing to feel free to pursue the purposes and plans the Lord had laid on my heart.

I bet you also have desires of the soul and some purpose-filled goals you dream of following through with. Maybe they are as simple as spending additional time with some specific family members, giving or serving in a capacity that’s been tugging on your heart, or meeting a physical, spiritual, or mental health milestone. Or maybe you have some rather large callings that you know will take a greater sum of strength and supernatural intervention to follow through with. We all have something of purpose we hope to come to pass. But here’s where all of this can become a discouraging struggle. When we feel limited in some way, whether it be a physical ability in my case, or a question of time, resources, or even mental capacity, too often we find ourselves feeling held back to bring about the desires our hearts are driving us toward.

If you have ever felt discouraged by some sort of limitation and a sense that your purpose might be compromised, let me respeak the truth my son did to me in my moment of seeking. Nothing will stop God from using you in his kingdom. Let me put it like this too: Your limits will not limit God’s plans for you. And here is why. We serve a limitless God. And there is nothing anyone or anything can do to stop his plans from prevailing. He will find a way, he will make a way, and God has good plans for you. Every one of us who loves and looks to him.

I know God is all-powerful and in constant care of me. But I believe we all need the reminders over and over when life gets in the way, especially when the obstacles seem really big and last really long. Just like I needed to walk into my surgery knowing that no matter what, God would still use me, and that nothing I was temporarily being limited by would limit his plans, the same is true for you. Whatever limitations seem to be standing in your way today, trust that God is working so hard behind the scenes to redeem your story, to create a future that will reveal an abundance of his limitless glory.

Let’s Pray:

Lord God, You are the almighty, limitless God. You have so much good purpose planned for me and all of your children. And I am so thankful. You have placed callings on my life, dreams and desires in my heart, and have given me a drive to pursue them. And these are gifts that I do not want to take for granted. Though too often, I feel held back by the limits of life. Lord, in these moments of struggle, help me remember that my limitations will never hinder or limit your perfect plan. Give me confidence that your purposes for me will prevail because you have authority over all things, including every single setback, barrier, and obstacle that meets my path. Nothing will stop you from using me in your kingdom. Lord, I praise you for your sovereign hand holding me and every detail of my life in your perfect plan. In Your Son's Name I pray, Amen.
