A Prayer to Live as a Resurrection Person

I’ve been a Christian my entire life. I was on fire as a child, wavered in middle school, dove deep into my relationship with God in high school, and then drifted into the party scene in my twenties. It took years to figure out where I belonged and what kind of woman I wanted to be.
Now I’m in my mid-forties, parenting young adult children, and serving at my local church. I am not the same person I was in the tumultuous days of my youth. I’ve lived enough life to know that living as a resurrected person in Jesus is the best way to live.
That doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Living for Jesus can be challenging, especially when we’re tempted by sin, eager to prove ourselves right, or simply passive in our faith. We’re human. We all have tendencies that pull us away from the life God desires for us.
When we choose to honor God, we will face situations that try to derail us. But we have to remember, when we love Jesus, people are watching. And even when no one else sees, God does.
If we want to share Jesus with others, our lifestyle is our loudest message.
Do we honor God with our time, resources, voice, talents, and hobbies?
Are we quick to anger or slow to forgive?
Do we gossip, exaggerate, or avoid accountability?
It’s so easy to point out someone else’s flaws while ignoring our own.
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?… First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” - Matthew 7:3-5
God calls us to humility and repentance. He calls us to live like Jesus so that others are drawn to Him. He wants to use us to love well, to extend grace, and to share the good news.
But to share the good news, we have to live like we believe it’s good.
If we live cynical, angry, or judgmental lives, we won’t reflect Christ; we’ll repel people from Him.
We need to live like resurrected people, because we are.
Jesus gave His life so we could walk in freedom we don’t deserve and reflect His character in the way we live.
Ask God to reveal the areas that need refining. Not so that we look impressive, but so that others see Jesus in us.
It isn’t easy standing out for Jesus, but it is worth it. We are living for Him, not for others. We can live in peace knowing that our energy, thoughts, and motives are motivated by His goodness and peace, bringing God’s love to everyone we encounter.
Let’s Pray:
Lord, I desire to honor You with my life. Show me the areas that need to change. I want to be mindful of what I say and do, but I need your help. My sin and selfishness can so easily get in the way.
I want to live in this world without looking like it. I want to stand out and reflect Christ even when it’s hard, even when it makes me different. I want to love you more than I love being right or fitting in. Help me to live graciously and draw others closer to You.
Teach me to be a woman of integrity. Guard my heart from being judgmental or critical. Instead, let me lead others with love and gentleness.
Forgive me for my sin, Lord, and help me live as a resurrected person each day. When I struggle, remind me of Your sacrifice. Keep my heart thankful for all You have done.
Help me remember that you are good even when life is not. You are bigger, stronger, and greater than anything I will face, and I want others to see that truth in me.
Thank You, Jesus, for my salvation. May my life reflect it every single day.
