A Prayer to Live from Victory and Not Defeat
By Jennifer Waddle

Bible Reading
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

Listen or Read Below:

When was the last time you felt defeated? Deeply disappointed, let down, or just weary? It’s easy to let life’s challenges back us into a corner of defeat. When there’s resistance at every turn, and mundane tasks start to feel monumental, defeating thoughts can cause us to retreat.

I’ve spent the majority of my life fighting defeating thoughts. I’m not sure why this has been such a challenge, but it’s something I’ve become more aware of and have worked hard to overcome. One thing I’ve learned is that the enemy is good at what he does: creating doubt and fear.

The first thing he said to Eve in the Garden of Eden was, “Did God really say?”

That one doubt-filled question caused Eve to forsake a perfect life in exchange for the taste of forbidden fruit. And in an instant, she felt the weight of sin’s defeat. From that moment on, the world entered an ongoing battle. In our work, relationships, health, and faith, Satan does his best to keep us in a place of defeated living.

But God… “He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57 NLT)

The Giver of all good things gives us victory today. Not someday or in the distant future, but today.  And from this place of victory, every doubt, depression, or feeling of defeat has to bow at Jesus’ feet!

Will you believe this today? Will you, by faith, proclaim victory in Jesus and live from His limitless blessings? As David said of the Lord, “You came to greet him with rich blessings and placed a crown of pure gold on his head. He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—length of days, forever and ever. Through the victories you gave, his glory is great; you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty. Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High, he will not be shaken.” (Psalm 21:2-7)

Just as the Lord greeted David with rich blessings, He greets you the same way. In His presence, you are equipped for every good thing. And through His unfailing love, you are not shaken. The enemy has no ground in your life; every inch belongs to Jesus. So, live with the mindset of victory in Jesus, as the old hymn says:

O victory in Jesus,

My Savior, forever.

He sought me and bought me

With His redeeming blood;

He loved me ere I knew Him

And all my love is due Him,

He plunged me to victory,

Beneath the cleansing flood.

Each time a whisper of defeat comes your way, simply say, “I am victorious in Christ Jesus.” Let it be an anthem of faith, dispelling every doubt and fear. God’s got this, my friend. He’s got you!

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, I admit that I have believed the enemy’s lies for far too long. Please forgive me and help me step into the victory you’ve claimed. I am Yours, Lord, and I choose to live my life from the finish line of Your mercy and grace. When defeating thoughts come, help me see exactly where they’re coming from and declare Your truth with boldness and belief. Your Word tells me that I am blessed with a long life and unending blessings. I stand on this truth as a platform of victory today. Thank You for overcoming the evil one. Remind me of this often, so that I, too, will overcome every doubt he throws my way. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.

What battle are you carrying today?

Maybe it is an unanswered prayer, a painful loss, a strained relationship, a health concern, or a circumstance that feels far beyond your control. When life feels overwhelming, we can become so consumed by our emotions—or so busy trying to fix everything ourselves—that prayer is often one of the first things we neglect.

This week on The Love Offering Podcast, my friend Rachel Wojo joins me to talk about her new 90-day devotional, Praying Through Life’s Battles. Drawing from her experience of loving and losing her daughter, Taylor, Rachel shares how prayer has sustained her through unimaginable grief and reminded her that she never faces life’s battles alone.
