Your Nightly Prayer

Beginning October in God's Peace

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“You will keep in perfect peace, those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”  Isaiah 26:3

SOMETHING TO PONDER

I always get so excited for the Autumn months to roll in; those "'Ber" months bring with them some beautiful days, fallen leaves, crisp mornings, cool evenings, and sunsets I don’t have to wait up for!

But sometimes, even in all the fun of apple picking and harvest days, I sometimes find myself, come October, getting a little unravelled. My peace seems to mimic those fallen leaves, dropping off little by little. I get worried about Christmas coming, the winter costs rising, the needs of the children, illnesses hitting our home, causing knock-on effects… and on and on my mind goes wandering in terrain I shouldn’t be in.

Often, I call it back to what it knows to be true: God is my peace.  It is in Him I find my peace. And so, when my mind is whirling and I cannot stop it, I choose often to anchor it in the truth of the word of God. This scripture is one of my favourites because it reminds me that peace is obtained in no other way than through Jesus. It also reminds me that Jesus doesn’t give peace in half measures, but in Him I can find PERFECT peace!

Maybe this month, you, like me, can start our new month by resting in God's perfect peace instead of carrying yesterday's or tomorrow's worries with us. As Scripture reminds us, every day has its own mercies for us to glean.  (Lamentations 3:22-23) So rest easy, friend; God will be as merciful tomorrow as He was today.

What a great reminder in the midst of life's chaos.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,

I come before you now, and I thank you for being a good God, a Holy God, one who concerns over my concerns and leans down to hear me when I cry out to you. Even now, at the beginning of  this new month, as I look ahead to exciting things, or back to memories from September, as I worry about what will come or replay what has already taken place, I ask you to remind me that you are my perfect peace and in you I can find rest for the month ahead.

Be with me and show me your peace that passes my understanding,

I ask in your name,

Amen.

3 THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON:

1. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and therefore, we can access Peace whenever we need to because the Holy Spirit lives within us!

2. Is there something in your life that you need to hand over to God and ask Him to deal with to allow you to find rest for your brain? If so, why not do that today and allow Him to handle it?

3. Do you need to recalibrate your focus so that your mind is steadfast on God and not wandering into worlds it doesn’t belong in? If so, simply ask God to help you have eyes and heart fixed on Him.

Reflect on tonight’s prayer and share how God met you there. Join the Your Nightly Prayer discussion on the Crosswalk Forum.
