Clearing Space for God
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
“Create in me a pure heart, O God.” - Psalm 51:10
SOMETHING TO PONDER
We all fall victim to the busyness of everyday life.
There are days when I get so busy that I forget to grab lunch. It’s so easily done. I am a mum of three wonderful kids, who have special education needs, and two are home-schooled. So, I'm busy! Before I even step outside the door of my house, there are 5,000 things that need to be sorted.
But Lent is a lovely time of the year to sit down and take stock. To ask questions like Why are we doing all of this? Or, if it is consuming our time with the Lord, is it healthy? Required? Necessary? Or the big one… is it in God's will?
I suppose today we are examining the idea of simplifying our lives and making room for God’s presence, His voice, His will, and His way.
Is there space in your day for the Lord to move, speak, or prompt? If not, friend, we need to reassess our priorities. My prayer for each person who reads or listens here is that the cry of their hearts would be as David once said, “Create in me a clean heart,” and then leave room for God to do so.
Perhaps this Lent, we need to sit down and ask ourselves what our day-to-day life looks like, or what our weekly view is. Are we making space for the Lord or squeezing Him in to the end of a day when there is nothing of us left?
What we do in our days matters so much, as CT Studd once said: “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last”. Friend, don’t you want to live your life for Christ alone?
There is so much the Lord wants to do in and through you, and I hope that by the end of this Lenten season, we will find ourselves closer to God and have more space for Him to move in.
Let’s pray.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for wanting to spend time with us. Thank you for wanting to help us become more like you.
Lord, I ask you this Lent that you would show me the areas of my life that are wasted in earthly deeds with no heavenly purpose. Show me where I have put idols in your place. Show me where I am failing you, Lord. Help me to realign my days to your will.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. What areas of my life am I living in waste?
2. We only get one life on earth, we only meet the people we meet here and then we go to eternity, who are you taking with you?
3. Is the cry of your heart to become more and more like Jesus? Or are you content in mediocracy?
Reflect on tonight’s prayer and share how God met you there. Join the Your Nightly Prayer discussion on the Crosswalk Forum.
