Your Nightly Prayer

He Prepares a Place for You
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am." - John 14:3

SOMETHING TO PONDER

The ultimate truth of the Bible is that the best is yet to come. We experience passing moments of Heaven’s goodness on Earth, but these are just previews of the life that is to come. God is preparing a place for us to share eternity with him and the other Saints.

When we struggle, grieve, when injustice appears to win in our world, there is comfort in remembering that God is in the business of making all things new. He one day will reveal to us His New Heaven and New Earth, setting right all the wrongs that have yet to be rectified in our lifetime. We have hope for the future.

We can trust God through life’s ups and downs, holding onto his promise that Heaven is our ultimate destination. He is preparing our hearts to enter his Kingdom, to one day live in unity, and to live without the chaos that constantly intrudes into our stories. As believers, we are always taking the long view.

Heaven pushes back the fear of death that we all have to face. It lessens the sting when loss touches our hearts. It offers hope when we see the bad guy win now, knowing God is the one who executes ultimate justice. We can cling to the hope of Heaven when we are unsure about life right now.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father,
I thank you that you are preparing a forever home for me in Heaven. I trust in your word and know that in your Kingdom justice wins in the end. Help me partner with you in bringing Heaven down, sharing your love so others can get a glimpse of what is to come. Help me to remember that the best is yet to come when I am discouraged.
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. How has the promise of Heaven brought you comfort?

2. How can you better practice trusting that God will make all things new in his own time?

3. What fears can you let go of because you have the hope of Heaven?
