TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE

“Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”-Zechariah 4:10

SOMETHING TO PONDER

God has a way of starting thing within us and through us in small ways, mainly, I think, because if we knew where He would take us with it, we might hold back, afraid to even start.

During high school, one of our daughters started writing, printing, and distributing her own Christian music reviews and newsletter at church, and to friends and family.

After several months, she received an offer to write music reviews for a national online site, leading to more writing opportunities down the road for her, including starting her own webzine, along with writing and editing books for a leading Christian publisher, all initiated in her small beginnings.

Another daughter loved to film videos of her pets and other animals doing cute and funny antics. With God’s help, she self-taught herself lighting techniques, time-coding, editing, filming, and dubbing, leading to her submitting various videos to a television show called “Planet’s Funniest Animals.”

Small beginnings that led to a video of her beloved cat being featured in this network show’s opening aired nationally. Who knew something she just loved to do for fun could lead to more? Well, of course, God knew, and He knew how to lead her in sharing what she loved to do with millions.

Still, yet, another daughter started photographing toys in various fun scenes and scenarios, posting them on Instagram. Followed at first by just a few family members and friends, she soon had a following of over 10,000+, along with toy companies following and sending her products.

Knowing my daughter as I do, if God had let her know beforehand that her postings would lead to thousands of viewers, she wouldn’t have ever started, but would have stopped in her tracks at the very thought of so many eyes seeing her creations.

God’s gentle leading in the small beginnings in their lives has led them to more than they would have imagined or thought possible, especially in this big world we live in.

Observing how God is in the small stuff, in the everyday things of life where we have a desire or idea, it’s wise to consider the possibility that He is leading us to more, and how the seemingly insignificant beginning might just be the start of something new and further reaching in His plan and will for our lives. As Luke 16:10 reminds us, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank you for how you lead us in appreciating the everyday beauty found in life’s quiet corners, the unexpected places, where we find ourselves enjoying the things you’ve created for us to enjoy. Lead us in going forward with these small beginnings and to be open to Your leading as to where they go, relying on Your timing and trusting Your will, so that we might glorify and praise Your name.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. What do you enjoy in life? Have you considered that God might be leading you to do more with what you love to do?

2. Is God giving you ideas that you’ve been wrestling with, whether to step out and do something with them? If so, what’s holding you back? Do you feel like it’s too small and insignificant, not big enough to even attempt to begin?

3. How is God leading you today with your interests, gifting, and callings? What do you see as the next steps in beginning to go further with them?
